
Seton Hall Volleyball Falls to Villanova

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Bitten hard by the injury bug, a depleted Seton Hall volleyball team fell to Villanova, 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 9-25), in Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday.

Down to only nine available players, some of which were limited, the young Pirates battled hard through the first two sets before seemingly running out of gas in the third. The Hall had a season-low -.032 attack percentage for the match.

Sophomore Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) did her best to fill the box score, finishing with team-highs of eight assists and nine digs to go with four kills and a pair of blocks. Freshman Sadie Reich (Wantagh, N.Y.) had a team-best five kills.

SET 1:
The Hall had an 8-7 lead in early in set one, but Villanova scored the next three points and never trailed again. A kill by Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) cut The Hall's deficit to 20-16, but the Wildcats answered with four of the next five points to enter set point with a seven-point lead. The Hall got two back, but ultimately fell, 25-19, in set one.

SET 2:
The second set was the closest of the match with seven ties and four lead changes, but in the end, the result was the same. An ace by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) tied the set at 14, but Villanova went on a 6-1 spurt to grab a 20-15 advantage. Back-to-back aces by Safian cut The Hall's deficit to 20-18, but the Wildcats closed out the set with five of the final seven points to win, 25-20.Â

Villanova led the final set, wire-to-wire, and held the Pirates to a -.087 attack percentage. The Wildcats scored the first five points of the set, and didn't look back in a 25-9 victory.

The Pirates will return action on Friday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Storrs, Conn. to face Connecticut. Match time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
