SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Junior Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hi.) and sophomore Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) recorded double-doubles to lift the Seton Hall women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22) victory over Iona on Friday.
The win is the Pirates' second sweep of the season and evens its record at 2-2. The victory comes in the first day of the annual Seton Hall Classic, which this season also features NJIT and Central Connecticut State.
Roberts-Navarro finished with a match-high 13 kills, only one attack error and a .353 attack percentage. She also tallied 10 digs and five assists. Adler had a team-high 19 digs to go with 11 assists.
Rowan Carr (Lakeville, Minn.) finished just two assists shy of a double-double of her own, ending with 12 digs and eight assists, while Emilee Fuller (Louisville, Ky.) had 11 assists, eight digs and three kills.
SET 1:
Trailing 8-6, The Hall scored four points in a row with the help of a pair of aces from Hanna Labanowska (Olszewnica Stara, Poland) to grab a 10-8 lead. Later in the set, it was Iona's turn to come back. Down 17-14, the Gaels scored four straight to reclaim the lead, 18-17. The Pirates made the last run, however. Behind 23-21, they scored the final four points of the set on a kill by Adler, a pair of kills from Roberts-Navarro, and the set-winner, a kill by Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia).
SET 2:
The second set was all Pirates, leading wire-to-wire. The Hall had a .333 attack percentage in the second stanza and held Iona to just .045.
