Aguilar Places Fourth; Pirates 11th at The Southern

STATESBORO, GA. – Sophomore Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) placed fourth overall and helped guide the Seton Hall women's golf team to an 11th place finish at the season-opening "The Southern" golf tournament on Tuesday.

Aguilar had three birdies in route to a 3-over-par, 75, in round three. For the tournament, she placed fourth with a 3-over-par, 72-72-75-219. She placed three strokes behind a pair of winners, Eastern Michigan's Janae Leovao and Georgia State's TK Kongthong.Â

Remarkably, it's Aguilar's seventh top-10 finish in only 11 career collegiate tournaments.

As a team, The Hall shot a 28-over-par, 316, in round three on Tuesday. For the tournament, the Pirates placed 11th with an 80-over-par, 315-313-316-944. Eastern Michigan won the team title at 11-over-par.

Seton Hall newcomer Isabella Stewart (Wicklow, Ireland) had a solid first collegiate event. The freshman had 13 pars on Tuesday to fuel a 5-over-par, 77. For the tournament, she was 21-over-par with an 82-78-77-237.

Junior Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) had two birdies in route to a 9-over-par, 81, in round three. She shot a 27-over-par, 80-82-81-243, for the season-opening tournament. Only two strokes behind, Ranee Rane (New Delhi, India) shot a 29-over-par, 81-81-83-245.

Senior Anne-Sofie Ekman (Copenhagen, Denmark) rounded out the Pirates' lineup with a 16-over-par, 88, in round three. For the tournament, she was 37-over-par with an 83-82-88-253.

THE COURSE:
Forest Heights Country Club was originally a 9-hole golf facility opened in 1947. In the early 1960's, the club membership acquired adjoining land and added a second nine. The original course designer was George Cobb. In 1990, Bob Cupp redesigned several holes and made changes to all green complexes. The course has mini verde Bermuda grass on greens which are in immaculate condition most of the year thanks to our course superintendent, Joe Glisson and his crew.

In addition to Seton Hall and host Georgia Southern, the field was comprised of 11 other teams including: Augusta University, Charleston Southern, Dartmouth, Eastern Michigan, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia State, Jacksonville, James Madison, Tarleton State, Western Carolina and Wofford.

Teams played five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
