Seton Hall will be back in action on Wednesday, January 14 when it returns to historic Walsh Gymnasium to host BIG EAST rival Marquette. Tip time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.Â

LAST GAME
Four players reached double-figures in scoring and the Seton Hall women's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit to defeat Providence, 58-48, on Thursday.

After an offensively forgettable first half, which featured both teams shooting under 24 percent from the field, the Pirates found their rhythm in the third quarter. The Hall took its first lead of the game with 4:22 left in the third and never trailed again, outscoring Providence, 40-to-25, in the second half.

Senior Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) had a game-high 17 points and four steals to lead the Pirates. Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) finished with 14 points, Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 10 points and Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Seton Hall and Marquette will continue their rivalry on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles own a 21-12 lead in the all-time series and the teams split the 2024-25 season series with each team winning on the road. This is a contest between teams that were picked to finish second (Marquette) and third (Seton Hall) in the BIG EAST this season, according to the preseason coaches' poll.

Cara Consuegra is in her second year at Marquette after guiding the Golden Eagles to a 21-win season and earning BIG EAST Co-Coach of the Year honors. Â The Golden Eagles went 21-11 overall and finished fourth in BIG EAST play with a 12-6 league mark. Â They made an appearance in the WBIT where they defeated Drake before losing to James Madison in the second round. Â Marquette looks to build on its success last season, returning all five starters, including Skylar Forbes, who averaged 15.8 points per game and received All-BIG EAST First Team honors.Â

This season, the Golden Eagles were picked to finish second in the 11-team BIG EAST according to its Preseason Coaches' Poll. Forbes, junior guard Halle Vice and graduate student guard Lee Volker were all named to the preseason team.  Forbes, a 2024-25 All-BIG EAST First Team member, averaged a team-high 15.8 points and 5.9 rebounds, starting in all 31 games last season.

The Golden Eagles went 6-3 in the non-conference portion of their schedule, which included an overtime victory over high-major opponent Wisconsin, but losses to Minnesota, Iowa State and Gonzaga. Marquette enters its contest with Seton Hall with a 5-2 record in BIG EAST Conference play. It has won three straight, and most impressively, defeated Villanova 85-69, on Jan. 4. Most recently, it routed Creighton, 67-49, on Thursday. Four players are averaging double-figures in scoring, led by Forbes who's 16.6 points per game is a team-best. Vice is averaging nearly a double-double at 14.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest.
