Twelve players scored and the Seton Hall women's basketball team set a new program record for margin of victory in a BIG EAST game with an 81-36 victory over Georgetown on New Year's Eve in Walsh Gym on Wednesday.

The 45-point victory is Seton Hall's largest ever against a BIG EAST opponent and its 36 points allowed are the fewest ever in conference play.

Seton Hall used a dominant first quarter to pull away from the Hoyas early. The Pirates out-scored Georgetown, 28-8, in the first 10 minutes, shooting 64.3 percent form the floor and forcing eight turnovers to set the tone for the rest of the contest.

Four Pirates reached double-figures in scoring, led by Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) who finished with 14 points, four rebounds and a season-high seven steals. Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had 12 points and four assists. Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) totaled 11 points, while Ja'Kahla Craft (Elk River, Minn.) came off the bench to score 10 points with three rebounds and three steals.

Seton Hall and Connecticut will resume their long rivalry on Saturday. The Huskies have dominated the all-time series, 61-10, as they have the rest of the BIG EAST. Seton Hall has lost 41 straight games in the series with its last victory coming on Jan. 5, 1994. The closest the Pirates have come to knocking off #4 UConn in recent years was a 92-78 loss in Walsh Gym on Dec. 5, 2019.

In 2024-25, UConn went 37-3, including a perfect 18-0 record in BIG EAST play, capturing both the regular season and tournament titles. Â The team claimed their 12th national championship to top off a historic season. Â UConn's top returners include graduate student Azzi Fudd, sophomore Sarah Strong, and juniors KK Arnold and Ashlynn Shade. Â Strong, National Freshman of the Year, led UConn with 12 double-doubles and averaged 16.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Â Fudd, 2025 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, led the Huskies with a 43.6 three-point percentage. Â The Huskies replaced 2025 National Player of the Year Paige Bueckers with five new players, including two transfers and three freshmen.

This season, the Huskies were again the unanimous choice to win the 11-team BIG EAST according to its Preseason Coaches' Poll. Strong was selected as Preseason Player of the Year, while Kelis Fisher was named Preseason Freshman of the Year. Arnold, Fudd, Shade and Serah Williams were all named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Connecticut hasn't skipped a beat yet this year and enters Saturday's contest as the top-ranked team in the country with a perfect 14-0 overall record and a 5-0 mark in BIG EAST play. The Huskies are clobbering their opponents by an average of 37.6 points per game and are averaging 90.1 points per contest, which is ninth-most in the country. UConn is coming off a 90-53 victory at Providence on Wednesday. Fudd and Strong are currently first and second in the BIG EAST in scoring, both averaging over 18 points per game.
