PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four players reached double-figures in scoring and the Seton Hall women's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit to defeat Providence, 58-48, on Thursday.
Â
After an offensively forgettable first half, which featured both teams shooting under 24 percent from the field, the Pirates found their rhythm in the third quarter. The Hall took its first lead of the game with 4:22 left in the third and never trailed again, outscoring Providence, 40-to-25, in the second half.
Â
Senior Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) had a game-high 17 points and four steals to lead the Pirates. Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) finished with 14 points, Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 10 points and Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Â
THE STORY:

Â
Trailing 16-6, The Hall held Providence scoreless for 6:02 and went on a 8-0 run to get back into the game. A pair of made free-throws by Codio cut The Hall's deficit to 16-14 with 3:57 left in the half. The Friars took a 23-18 lead into the break. The Hall was just 1-for-9 from three-point range in the first half.
Â
With the score tied at 28, The Hall scored seven of the next nine points to take their first lead of the game and grab a 35-30 lead with 3:23 left in the third quarter. The Hall shot 60 percent from the field in the third and took a 38-35 lead into the fourth.
Â
The Hall opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run, and an offensive rebound and made reverse layup by Valenzuela gave The Hall a 46-37 lead with 6:23 left to play. Providence never got closer than a seven-point deficit the rest of the way. Valenzuela scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter alone.
