LAST GAME
Graduate student Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) had a team-high 17 points, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell to St. John's, 67-61, in Queens on Saturday.

After a most-even first half, St. John's shot 60 percent from the floor in the second half, which included 6-for-9 shooting from three-point range. Seton Hall was able to turn the Red Storm over 23 times, but was beaten badly on the glass, 42-23.

Valenzuela finished with a team-best 17 points on the strength of 4-for-8 shooting from three-point range. Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) added 13 points, three assists and three steals. Sophomore Ja'Kahla Craft (Elk River, Minn.), making her first collegiate start, had eight points and team-highs of eight rebounds and four steals.

It was a breakout performance for Ari Woodard (Oviedo, Fla.), who logged career-highs of 11 points and two steals in a career-best 14 minutes. Nine of her 11 points came in the fourth quarter as the freshman almost single-handedly kept the Pirates in the game.

AGAINST MARQUETTE
Seton Hall and Marquette will meet for the second time this season, this time up in Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles own a 21-13 all-time series lead, but the teams have split the last 10 meetings, 5-to-5. Last season, The Hall defeated Marquette at the Al McGuire Center for the first time ever. On Wednesday, the Pirates are seeking their first-ever season sweep of the Golden Eagles.

EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST MARQUETTE
Graduate student Mariana Valenzuela (Mazatlan, Mexico) scored a career-high 26 points and the Seton Hall women's basketball team rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat Marquette, 64-61, in historic Walsh Gymnasium on Jan. 14.

The Hall trailed 20-5 to start the game, but used a 17-0 second-quarter run to claw back into the contest. The Pirates shot just 31.3 percent from the field, but forced 19 Marquette turnovers and pulled down 15 offensive rebounds.

Valenzuela was 10-for-21 from the field, including 4-for-9 from three-point range to go with seven rebounds and three blocks in a career-best performance. Ten of her game-high 26 points came in the fourth quarter. Junior Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) finished with 12 points, including eight points in the fourth quarter. She was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line and drew 10 fouls.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Marquette enters its Wednesday contest with a 16-8 record overall and a 10-5 mark in BIG EAST play. They're currently in third place in the BIG EAST with five games remaining and have a two-game lead on the sixth-place position for the BIG EAST Tournament first-round bye. The Golden Eales had won five in a row before falling in overtime at Creighton on Sunday. They've gone 5-2 since losing to Seton Hall on Jan. 14. Currently, four Golden Eagles are averaging in double-figures in scoring, led by Skylar Forbes' 15.4 points per game. Halle Vice is nearly averaging a double-double with 14.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.

BYE WATCH
The top five teams in the final BIG EAST standings will earn a bye for the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament next month. Currently, Seton Hall is in fourth place, while Marquette is a half game ahead of the Pirates in third place. The sixth-place team is Creighton. The Pirates have a 1.5 game lead on the Bluejays, but need a victory in Milwaukee to ensure the head-to-head tie-breaker over Creighton.
