PREVIEW
Seton Hall will return to action this week when it opens BIG EAST Conference play with a pair of contests. The Hall will make the short trip to Queens, N.Y. for its conference-opener against St. John's on Wednesday, Sept. 23. On Friday, the Pirates will host defending BIG EAST champion Creighton in Walsh Gym.

Both matches this week will be streamed live on ESPN+ and both will have Live Stats. Friday's contest against Creighton will also be on 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net.

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
Seton Hall and St. John's will resume its long BIG EAST rivalry on Wednesday. The Red Storm currently owns a 24-20 all-time series lead and has won the last three matches against the Pirates. Seton Hall's last victory at Carnesecca Hall came on Nov. 14, 2021. Last season, Seton Hall dropped a pair of four-set matches to St. John's.

The Red Storm are coming off a 10-19 season in 2025, which included a 6-10 mark in conference play. Like Seton Hall, St. John's did not qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament last season. This season, the Red Storm was picked to finish eighth in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the conference's preseason coaches poll. Senior Rashanny Solano Smith was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

St. John's has the top record in the BIG EAST as it opens conference play. The Red Storm enter Wednesday's contest with a 10-3 record and had won six in a row before a five-set loss to Rutgers on Saturday. Carola Tesoro currently leads the BIG EAST with 4.49 kills per set, while Solano Smith leads the conference with 5.81 digs per set. As a team, St. John's defense has been the best in the conference. It leads the BIG EAST with a .148 opponent hitting percentage and 13.92 digs per game.

SCOUTING CREIGHTON
Seton Hall and Creighton will continue a very one-sided rivalry since the Bluejays joined the BIG EAST in 2013. Creighton has won 22 consecutive matches in the series and a staggering 61 straight sets against the Pirates. The Bluejays own a 23-3 all-time record in the series. The Hall last defeated Creighton on Nov. 23, 2014.

The Bluejays are coming off another historic season, which included a 28-6 final record, a perfect 16-0 mark in BIG EAST play and their sixth-consecutive conference championship. Creighton won three games in the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 2 Kentucky with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

To the surprise of no one, the Bluejays were again chosen as the unanimous favorite to repeat as champions, according to the BIG EAST preseason coaches' poll. Abbey Hayes, Ayden Ames and Jaya Johnson were all named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

Creighton enters BIG EAST play with only a 5-7 record, but it has already played six nationally-ranked opponents. The Bluejays have already registered victories over No. 9 Purdue and No. 20 USC. Creighton enters Saturday's contest having lost five straight, most recently having lost in four sets to No. 15 Texas A&M. Trinity Shadd-Ceres leads the team with 3.22 kills per set.

NEXT WEEK
Next week, the Pirates will remain home and host a pair of BIG EAST opponents in historic Walsh Gymnasium. The Hall will face Butler on Friday, Oct. 2 at 5:00 p.m., and Xavier on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4:00 p.m.
