Pirates Tested by High Winds in Round 1 at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Marta Aguilar (Casares Malaga, Spain) shot a 7-over-par, 78, to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team to an 11^th place standing after 18 holes of the Princeton Invitational on Friday.

The tournament was originally scheduled for two rounds on Saturday and a final round on Sunday, but with a nor'easter due to arrive this weekend, the field decided to play as much as two rounds as possible on Friday and the remaining round and change on Saturday.

Aguilar had a pair of birdies in route to a 7-over-par, 78, in round one. Princeton's Ysabel Liu leads the individual field after 18 holes at 2-under-par.

As a team, The Hall shot a 35-over-par, 319, despite high winds in round one. Host Princeton is the team leader after one round following a 2-under-par, 282. A pair of BIG EAST competitors are also in the field at Springdale. Georgetown is currently 28-over-par, while St. John's is 31-over-par.

Senior Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) and freshman Laney Bae (Huntington Beach, Calif.) are tied following a 9-over-par, 80.

Sophomore Isabella Stewart (Wicklow, Ireland) shot a 10-over-par, 81, while senior Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) is 11-over-par following an 82.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, freshman Gia Vitelli (Cranbury, N.J.) shot a 13-over-par, 84, in round one.

THE COURSE
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members. With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.

THE FIELD
In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field is comprised of 11 other teams including: Albany, Boston University, Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Pennsylvania Rutgers-Newark and Yale. Also joining the field are two BIG EAST opponents: Georgetown and St. John's.

THE FORMAT
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

THE SCHEDULE
The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The field will play two continuous rounds. On Sunday, the field will play one final round, also with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
