Volleyball Falls to St. John's, 3-0

In the first game, the Red Storm got off to a 10-1 lead. The Pirates closed the gap to 11-13, but the lead would prove to be too great. In the second game, the Pirates led 7-3 when St. John's closed the game with a 12-2 run.
The Pirates led early in the decisive third game, 4-3, but St. John's went on a 9-1 run to take a 12-5 lead. Seton Hall rallied and closed to within a point at 13-14, but the Red Storm were able to hold off the feisty Pirates for a three game sweep. Seton Hall falls to 6-10 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST conference play. St. John's improves to 16-4 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST.
Despite the loss, the Pirates had a particularly strong defensive match recording 20 block assists.
Leading the Pirates was sophomore Tara Brooks (Fort Macleod, Alberta) with nine block assists. Brooks also had eight kills. Sophomore Kari Belin (Hagerstown, MD) chipped in with five block assists and led the Pirates with 16 kills. Freshman Jenna Meyers (Camarillo, CA) had a team-high ten digs. Meyers also recorded six kills.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Peter's. Match time is 7:00 pm. Seton Hall now has seven consecutive road games before they return home to Walsh Gym on Oct. 28 vs. Providence.
