Defense Leads Volleyball Past West Virginia, 3-2

The win improves the Pirates to 9-18 overall and 2-8 in BIG EAST conference play, while West Virginia falls to 8-16 overall and 2-8 in the BIG EAST.
The Pirates recorded a season-high 115 digs and 41 blocks. This season's previous high in digs was only 74 recorded on Oct. 8 at Villanova. Seton Hall was only ten short of the all-time record for digs in a game, set on Oct. 28, 1990 when the Pirates had 125. This season's previous high in blocks was 25 picked up in the season opener at Temple.
The Pirates were led by junior Paige Ellertson (Mount Holly Springs, PA) and sophomore Tara Brooks (Fort Macleod, Alberta) who led the team with 24 digs each. Brooks' 24 digs are a career-high, while Ellertson's performance falls one dig shy of her personal best.
Sophomore Sarah Ahlers (Emmett, ID) tied her career-high with 17 digs. Ahlers was also the top offensive threat for the Pirates leading the team with 14 kills.
Sophomore Kari Belin (Hagerstown, MD) was second on the team with 12 kills.
Sophomore Leanne Thompson (New Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Jenna Meyers (Camarillo, CA) chipped in with 15 digs each.
Junior Alyson Furch (Tempe, AZ) led the Pirates in blocks with a career-high ten block assists and one block solo. Brooks was second on the team with seven block assists and one block solo.
The Pirates return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Sacred Heart. Match time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
