Women's Basketball Falls to Loyola, 66-56

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ (Dec. 2, 2000) -- Senior Arminda Moreno (Telde, Canary Islands) scored a game-high 20 points but it was not enough as visiting Loyola (Md.) shot 53.7 percent from the field en route to a 66-56 win over Seton Hall in women's basketball action in Walsh Gym on December 2.
The Pirates fall to 2-3 with the loss while Loyola improves to 2-3.
Seton Hall fell behind 9-0 to start the game, but fought back and held its only lead of the game, 19-18, with 8:10 left in the first half. The Pirate offense would stagnate after that, however, as the Greyhounds built a 14-point lead with an 18-3 run over the next 12 minutes. Loyola led by as many as 17 (59-42 with 4:06 remaining) and the Pirates would not cut the lead to closer than seven points (63-56 with 52.2 seconds left).
The Pirates shot just 35.1 percent (20-of-57) from the floor and were outrebounded for the first time this season, 35-30.
Erica Rath led Loyola with 17 points and Laura Slater and Shontrese Smith added 13 apiece. Sophomore Cecilia Lindqvist (Huskvarna, Sweden) scored 15 points for SHU, adding four assists against just one turnover. Junior Susan Murray (Mississauga, Ontario) added 10 points for the Pirates.
Loyola connected on 22 of its 41 shots from the field, including a blistering 63.2 percent (12-of-19) in the second half.
