Fuller Sparks Women's Basketball Past Providence, 74-61

PROVIDENCE, RI (December 7, 2000) - Senior forward Starr Fuller (Boston, MA) scored 11 points, all in the second half, to spark Seton Hall to a 74-61 victory over Providence in the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
The Pirates, who won their second straight, improve to 4-3 overall. Providence drops to 4-4.
Providence held a 47-46 lead following a three-point play by Steffanie Shoop with 11:46 left in the second half. But Fuller, who missed the first six games of the season due to injury, ignited a 20-5 run when she scored off an offensive rebound with 11:26 remaining. She had nine points during the decisive surge. Sophomore forward Leslie Ardon (Trinite, French West Indies) added six of her game-high 21 points while senior forward Arminda Moreno (Telde, Canary Islands) contributed four.
Seton Hall sealed the win by going six-for-eight from the free-throw line in the final minute. Junior guard Niamah Smith (Elizabeth, NJ) and sophomore guard Cecilia Lindqvist (Huskvarna, Sweden) were both three-for-four.
The Pirates trailed 36-33 at halftime, but held the Friars to just 30 percent shooting (9-for-30) in the second half. In addition, Seton Hall held a commanding 56-35 rebounding advantage for the game. Moreno, who scored 15 points, also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. She was also three-for-six from beyond the arc while playing all 40 minutes.
Lindqvist chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Providence was led by freshman center Jenese Wilcox who scored 15 points and grabbed six boards.
Seton Hall returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 10 when it hosts George Washington University in a 2 p.m. game at Walsh Gymnasium.
