Women's Basketball Defeats West Virginia, 58-55

MORGANTOWN, WV (February 12, 2000) -- The Seton Hall women's basketball team improved to 8-13 overall and 2-9 in the BIG EAST Conference with a 58-55 win over West Virginia at Morgantown High School. Arminda Moreno led the Pirates with 15 points and Starr Fuller added 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds as the Pirates snapped a three-game losing streak. West Virginia is 6-17 and 1-11 in the league.
Yolanda Rouse, who scored 13 points, sealed the win for Seton Hall when she sank two free throws with four seconds left to make it 58-55. Seton Hall had held the Mountaineers to just two points over the final five minutes of the game, including forcing a charging call on WVU's Val Zona with five seconds left and the Pirates up by one (56-55).
The Pirates led 32-29 at halftime on the strength of eight first-half points from both Fuller and Devin Jefferson. Moreno scored 11 in the second half, where there were six lead changes. The Pirates took the lead for good on a Susan Murray jumper with 5:46 remaining.
The Pirates shot 42.4 percent from the floor and committed a season-low 11 turnovers.
Seton Hall travels to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Feb. 16 to take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m.
