Cross Country Competes at BIG EAST Championships

Senior Justin Wood came in 33rd place with a time of 25:43.

BRONX, N.Y. – The Seton Hall men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the BIG EAST Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, with the men finishing 13th, compiling 341 points, and the women coming in 16th, with 460 points. Senior Justin Wood (Walton, N.Y.) was the men’s top finisher, coming in 33rd with a time of 25:43, and sophomore Kerry Cahill (Hillsborough, N.J.) paced the women’s team, with a 79th place finish and a time of 23:57.

Wood’s time was only 40 seconds off of what he needed to qualify for the All-BIG EAST Team, which consists of the race’s top-15 finishers. He did manage to improve his 2004 final position by nearly 20 spots, even with four additional teams competing in the race; he came in 52nd at last year’s conference championships.

Other top performers for the men’s team were freshman Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J.), who ran the course in 27:16, coming in 78th, freshman Pawel Kornaszewski (Clifton, N.J.), finishing in 81st with a time of 27:34, senior Ryan Colardeau (New Ipswich, N.H.), who was 90th, with a time of 27:52, freshman Terrance Gallogly (Providence, R.I.), who came in 93rd, running the race in 27:54, and junior Desmond Perkins (Chesapeake, Va.), who was 98th, with a time of 28:30.

For the Pirates’ women’s team, senior Andrea Austin (Hollywood, Fla.) came in 98th, with a time of 24:42, junior Crystal Anyanwu (Beltsville, Md.) was 110th, finishing the course in 25:52, junior Katie Van Doren (Bridgewater, N.J.) recorded a time of 27:07, finishing 117th, with junior Robin Kneblick (Burleson, Texas) running right behind her at 118th, and a time of 27:18, and junior Cassidy Powers (Blairstown, N.J.) was 120th, running the course in 27:48.

The cross country teams will next see action on Saturday, Nov. 12, when they compete in the NCAA Regional Championships in Bethleham, Pa.
