Cross Country's Justin Wood Wins George Washington Invitational

Senior Justin Wood won the George Washington Invitational with a time of 25:41.78.

CENTREVILLE, Va. – Seton Hall senior Justin Wood (Walton, N.Y.) on Saturday won his second cross country meet of the year, finishing in first place with a time of 25:41.78, at the George Washington Invitational, held at Bull Run Regional Park. Wood’s victory paced the men’s team to a sixth-place finish at the 12 team meet. The women’s team finished in eighth-place, and was led by sophomore Kerry Cahill (Hillsborough, N.J.), who came in 20th, running the race in 24:03.39.

Two weeks ago, Wood won the Pirates’ opening meet of the year, the Wagner Invitational, leading the pack with a time of 27:28.27. Last week, he had another strong showing, once again serving as the men’s top finisher, coming in third place at the Bronc Inviational, running the race in 25:37.60.

Other top finishes for the men’s team at the George Washington Invitational came from sophomore Brendan Meehan (Woburn, Mass.), who came in 41st, with a time of 27:33.11, freshman Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J.), who finished 46th in 27:27.70, freshman Tom Walsh (Matawan, N.J.) was 48th, with a time of 27:30.13, and Terrance Gallogly (Providence, R.I.) came in 61st, completing the course in 27:42.87.

For the women, senior Andrea Austin (Hollywood, Fla.) was 28th, with a time of 24:19.16, junior Crystal Anyanwu (Beltsville, Md.) was 36th, finishing in 24:45.95, junior Robin Kneblick (Burleson, Texas) ran the race in 26:49.24, good for a 89th place finish, and freshman Jackie Hobb finished 103rd, with a time of 28:06.63.

The Pirates will not be in competition next weekend, but they return to action on Friday, Oct. 7, when they will compete in the Metropolitan Championships, to be run at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y.
