
BIG EAST Announces Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

NEW YORK - The Seton Hall women's basketball team was selected 16th in the Preseason BIG EAST Coaches poll announced at media day on Thursday at ESPNZone in New York City. The coaches selected Connecticut as the preseason favorite over Rutgers. The Huskies had 11 first-place votes and 221 points, narrowly edging the Scarlet Knights, who had 215 points and five first-place votes.
The Pirates return five starters from last year's 6-21 team. Head coach Phyllis Mangina is in her 22nd season at SHU and will lead the Pirates into their season-opener on Nov. 11 at the WBCA Classic in Kansas City, Mo., against Kansas.
Jessica Dickson of South Florida was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year, while Connecticut's Tina Charles was the Preseason Rookie of the Year.
