Women's Basketball 2006-07 Schedule Announced

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. The Seton Hall women’s basketball team will play a challenging schedule in 2006-07, with 12 games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year.  The Pirates will compete in three in-season tournaments, including the Seton Hall Basketball Classic at Walsh Gym, and will play a 16-game BIG EAST slate with games against each of the league’s members.

”We have a very exciting non-conference schedule, including the WBCA Classic to start the year, which we’re very excited to be part of,” head coach Phyllis Mangina said. “The schedule we play outside of the conference will challenge us and prepare us to play the best competition in the country in the BIG EAST Conference.”

Seton Hall will open the season on Nov. 11-12 at the WBCA Classic in Kansas City, Mo. The Pirates will face Kansas on Saturday, before facing either Iowa or Missouri State on Sunday.  SHU will host the Seton Hall Basketball Classic in Walsh Gym the following weekend, Nov. 17-18. SHU will play Howard on Nov. 17, before facing either Massachusetts or Navy on Nov. 18. The Pirates will then host Iona (Nov. 21) and Army (Nov. 26) in a pair of non-conference games before taking to the road to face Hartford (Nov. 29) and Virginia (Dec. 2). An early-season BIG EAST game at Providence (Dec. 5) will break up the non-conference slate before SHU travels to the Christmas City Classic at Lehigh University on Dec. 29-30. The Pirates will face Central Michigan on the first day, before matching up with either Lehigh or Gardner Webb to lead into conference play. Seton Hall will also face St. Peter’s in a non-conference matchup on Feb. 13.

The Pirates will face each of the 15 BIG EAST teams at least once, while facing Providence both home-and-away.   SHU’s home games in the league will be: Notre Dame (Jan. 2), Rutgers (Jan. 13), Providence (Jan. 23), Pittsburgh (Jan. 27), Georgetown (Feb. 6), Villanova (Feb. 11), Marquette (Feb. 20) and St. John’s (Feb. 24).  On the road, Seton Hall will face Providence (Dec. 5), Louisville (Jan. 6), Connecticut (Jan. 9), West Virginia (Jan. 16), Cincinnati (Jan. 20), Syracuse (Feb. 3), DePaul (Feb. 17), and South Florida (Feb. 26).  The 12-team BIG EAST Conference Championship will be held March 3-6 at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Conn.

2006 NCAA Tournament participants on Seton Hall’s schedule include Iowa, Missouri State, Army, Hartford, Coppin State, Notre Dame, Louisville, Connecticut, Rutgers, St. John’s, DePaul and South Florida. Marquette, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Villanova, Kansas and Virginia all participated in the 2006 Postseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
