CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Seton Hall women’s basketball team lost 85-65 to Virginia on Saturday. The Pirates had four players in double-figures for the fourth consecutive game, but turned the ball over 24 times, including 17 in the first half, leading to 38 Cavalier points. Seton Hall falls to 5-3 on the season, while the Virginia improves to 6-2. Sophomore Noteisha Womack (Ft. Wash, Md.) had a double-double with 18 points along with 11 rebounds.
Junior Ela Mukosiej (Bilystock, Poland) scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half. Freshman Ashley Booker (Oceanside, Calif.) had 14 points and six assists. Senior Monique Blake (Union, N.J.) scored 10 points and pulled down nine boards.
Mukosiej started the game with 11 points in the first 6:38 to keep the Pirates close at 19-17. Virginia capitalized on five turnovers and went on a 13-0 run, to make the score 34-19 with 8:30 left in the half. The Cavaliers extended their lead to 46-26 at the 2:17 mark and went into the break leading, 49-30.
Virginia took their largest lead of the game, 76-46 with 8:53 remaining in the game. Seton Hall continued to play hard, outscoring the Cavaliers 17-9 to close the match, but Virginia took the win.
Brenna McGuire hit five three-pointers, and led Virginia with 17 points. Lyndra Littles and Monica Wright each scored 15 points for the Cavaliers.
The Pirates open up BIG EAST play on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Providence. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
