BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Seton Hall women’s basketball defeated Central Michigan, 79-55, at the Christmas City Classic. With the win, the Pirates (8-3) advanced to the championship game tomorrow night. Seton Hall never trailed in the game and held the Chippewas to 32.2 percent shooting from the floor. Senior Heta Korpivaara (Espoo, Finland) led all scorers with 16 points.
Junior Ela Mukosiej (Bialystok, Poland) finished the game with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Sophomore Noteisha Womack (Fort Washington, Md.) added 13 points off the bench, and sophomore Jadis Rhodin (Lakehurst, N.J.) contributed eight points and a game-high seven boards.
The Pirates pressured Central Michigan and started to pull away from the Chippewas (7-5) by going on a 14-2 run to extend their lead to, 29-12, with 9:40 to go in the first half. Central Michigan went 6:11 without scoring a field goal as Seton Hall went into the break leading, 44-28.
In the second half, the Pirates picked up where they left off and took their largest lead on senior Monique Blake’s (Union, N.J) free-throws. The pair from the stripe put Seton Hall ahead, 70-40, with 6:04 left on the clock, as the Pirates took their third straight victory.
Seton Hall will play Lehigh tomorrow night at 7:30 in Bethlehem, Pa.
