Women's Basketball Signs Junior College Standout

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women’s basketball team has signed Elizbieta Mukosiej, a standout at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri, to a national letter of intent, Pirate head coach Phyllis Mangina announced Friday. A native of Bilystok, Poland, Mukosiej will join the Seton Hall program for the 2006-07 season.
“Ela is an outstanding addition to our program,” Mangina said. “She is a very gifted player who will bring experience to our already exciting backcourt.”
Mukosiej was a 5’11 standout guard for the Lady Vikings, leading them to a 23-8 mark overall last season and a 6-2 record in the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference. Mukosiej led the team in scoring (16.1 ppg), field goal percentage (56.1 percent), rebounding (6.9 rpg) and steals (2.4 spg), while ranking second in assists (4.0 apg) last season. She also ranked 29th nationally in free-throw shooting, hitting 81.3 percent from the stripe. While at Jefferson College she was a two-time All-Conference pick and earned All-Region honors in 2005-06. Makusiej also earned NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention accolades following her sophomore season.
“Ela is an outstanding player who can do whatever is needed on the floor whether it is to score, rebound or defend. She will bring a toughness and tenacity to the team that is needed to win in the BIG EAST,” Mangina said.
Mukosiej joins a class that includes Ashley Booker of Oceanside, Calif., LaTanya Copeland of Silver Springs, Md. and Necole Evans of Springfield, Mass., who will all join the Seton Hall program for the 2006-07 season.
