HOLMDEL, N.J. The Seton Hall men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept 16. The women finished in second place overall, posting 42 points and an overall time of 1:45:47. Senior Crystal Anyanwu (Beltsville, Md.) was the first Pirate female across the finish line, with a third place finish and a time of 20:26. Sophomore Pawel Kornaszewski (Clifton, N.J.) led the men’s team with a seventh place finish and a time of 28:36. Overall the Seton Hall men finished in third place, with 73 points and an overall time of 2:26:52.
Finishing right behind Anyanwu were fellow Pirates, junior Kerry Cahill (Hillsborough, N.J.) and freshman Diane Szaflarski. Cahill finished in fourth place with a time of 20:27 and Szaflarski in fifth place running the course in 20:29. Junior Rose Abrams (Pine Hill, N.J.) posted a time of 21:48, good enough for 13th place and freshman Chavanne Hubbard finished in 17th place with a time of 22:37.
The other leading performers on the men’s side were sophomore Rob Novak (Bordentown, N.J.), who came in ninth with a time of 28:58, senior Desmond Perkins (Chesapeake, Va.) who finished the course in 29:01, placing 11th, sophomore Terrance Gallogly (Providence, R.I), with a 17th place finish and a time of 29:18, and junior Patrick O’Neill was 29th, with a time of 30:59.
The Pirates return to action next Saturday, Sept. 23, when they will compete at the Maryland Eastern Shore Invitational.
