Seton Hall looks to make it two wins in a row on Tuesday night when the Providence Friars come to town for a rematch of the Dec. 5 meeting, a 66-52 Pirate victory. Ashley Booker, Monique Blake, and Heta Korpivaara each scored 14 points to give head coach Phyllis Mangina her 300th career win.
The Pirates snapped a five-game losing streak on Jan. 20 with a 58-57 comeback victory at Cincinnati. Ela Mukosiej’s jumper in the lane with eight seconds left proved to be the game-winner as SHU picked up its second conference win of the season.
The Pirates are led by Blake, who leads the team in scoring (11.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg). Blake scored in double-figures in eight straight games at one point and has posted six double-doubles on the season. She missed the CIncinnati game with a slight knee sprain.
Seton Hall has a perfect 10-0 record when holding teams to under 60 points. The Pirates have allowed only four opponents to score more than 70 points, while also holding two below 50.
The Friars have dropped three straight games, including a 79-77 loss to No. 19/19 Marquette on Jan. 20. Providence overcame a 17-point halftime deficit before falling just short at the end.
Sophomore guard Chelsea Marandola is averaging 18.5 ppg and 7.1 rpg while playing over 36 minutes per contest. Senior forward Shauna Snyder has been good for 14.0 ppg, while sophomore guard Catherine Bove is also in double digits at 12.8 ppg.
Head coach Phil Seymore is in his second season at the helm of the Friars, posting a 20-26 record in that time. Providence went 8-19 a year ago, including a 3-13 mark in the BIG EAST.
