Seton Hall will look to push its winning streak to seven on Tuesday when it makes the short trip to Jersey City to take on Saint Peter’s College of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Peahens took a 75-59 victory in last season’s contest. Monique Blake led the Pirates with 18 points.
SHU pushed its streak to six with a 56-51 win over Villanova on Feb. 11. Ela Mukosiej again set a new career-high in scoring, dropping 24 points including a tie-breaking jumper with 13 seconds left. Blake registered her eighth double-double of the season and the 22nd of her career with 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Pirates have won six straight BIG EAST games for the first time since the end of the 1993-94 regular season.
Six straight double-digit scoring efforts have made Mukosiej the team’s leading scorer at 11.7 ppg. Blake leads the team on the glass with 8.1 rpg and is second in scoring at 10.8 ppg.
Seton Hall has a perfect 14-0 record when holding teams to under 60 points. The Pirates have allowed only four opponents to score more than 70 points, while also holding three below 50.
The Peahens have dropped their last two games, including a 72-50 drubbing at the hands of Manhattan on Sunday. St. Peter’s, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, is 7-5 on its home floor.
Sophomore guard Tania Kennedy leads the Peahens in scoring with 13.0 ppg and has hit a team-high 42 three-pointers. Junior forward Lauma Reke is also in double figures at 10.0 ppg and is second on the squad in rebounding with 5.4 rpg. Junior guard Johnell Burts leads the MAAC in assists with 5.8 per contest.
Head coach Stephanie DeWolfe is in her 3rd season at Saint Peter’s. The Peahens finished at 13-15 a year ago and were eliminated in the MAAC Tournament by Niagara.
