After falling behind 10-5, three straight Mukosiej jumpers helped the Pirates get back to within 12-11 with 14:35 left. SHU stayed close through the first ten minutes before an 18-4 DePaul run gave the Blue Demons a 40-21 lead. A trio of three-pointers from Smith in the final 4:38 of the half put SHU in a 55-27 hole at the break.
An 11-2 spurt by the Pirates cut the lead to 67-48 with just over nine minutes left in the second half, but the Hall could get no closer as DePaul pulled away once again down the stretch.
The Blue Demons did the brunt of their damage from beyond the arc, hitting 11-of-29 for the game. The Pirates gave up 25 points off turnovers and were outrebounded 41-40.
