Seton Hall brings a three-game winning streak into Saturday afternoon’s contest with Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. In last year’s meeting, the Orange came away with a 64-56 win at Walsh Gymnasium. Amber Harris led the Pirates with 14 points.
The Pirates continued their winning ways last Saturday with a 51-50 upset win over No. 23 Pittsburgh. Monique Blake hit 1-of-2 free throws with 1.7 seconds left to give SHU the victory. Ela Mukosiej led the way in the scoring column with 19 points while Blake added 12. Noteisha Womack tied her career-high with 11 rebounds.
The Pirates are led by Blake, who is averaging 11.1 ppg and 7.8 rpg. Blake scored in double-figures in eight straight games at one point and has posted six double-doubles on the season.
Seton Hall has a perfect 12-0 record when holding teams to under 60 points. The Pirates have allowed only four opponents to score more than 70 points, while also holding three below 50.
The Orange carry a five-game losing streak into Saturday’s game, including a 67-49 loss to West Virginia on Jan. 31. Syracuse is tied for 13th place in the BIG EAST at 2-7.
Freshman forward Nicole Michael has enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign, leading the Orange with 16.1 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Junior center Vaida Sipaviciute posts 13.7 ppg and 5.9 rpg, while junior guard Fantasia Goodwin, the team’s top three-point threat, scores 12.9 ppg to go along with 7.0 rpg. Syracuse averages 59.7 ppg as a team while allowing 66.4.
Head coach Quentin Hillsman is in his first season at Syracuse. The Orange finished at 9-18 a season ago and did not qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament.
