PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the first time this season, Seton Hall senior forward Monique Blake (Union, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after posting three consecutive double-doubles while leading the Pirates to a 2-1 week. She averaged 15.7 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks for the week.
Blake turned in a monster game at South Florida, scoring 18 points and grabbing 19 rebounds in SHU’s regular season finale. She also blocked three shots and handed out three assists.
On Feb. 20, she helped the Hall to an upset win over No. 19 Marquette, totaling 13 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks. Blake came through with another clutch performance on Senior Day at Walsh Gymnasium, notching 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks as the Pirates beat St. John’s, 59-54. She also moved into fourth place all-time at SHU on the career rebounding list.
It is the third time in her career that Blake has been honored in the BIG EAST Weekly Report. As a sophomore she was twice named Player of the Week.
LaQuita Owens of West Virginia picked up Player of the Week honors after leading the Mountaineers to a 3-0 week. Blake was joined on the Honor Roll by Krystal Ellis of Marquette, Angel McCoughtry of Louisville, Nicole Michael of Syracuse, Caprice Smith of DePaul, and Marcedes Walker of Pittsburgh. Connecticut’s Tina Charles earned her sixth Freshman of the Week Award of the season.
Seton Hall returns to action on Mar. 3 in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament in Hartford, Conn. The Pirates, seeded at No. 9, while take on No. 8 South Florida in a rematch of the regular season finale played on Feb. 26.
