The Seton Hall women's basketball team has been chosen to participate in the 2007 Postseason WNIT, earning a bid in the 48-team tournament. The Pirates (18-11) will host Dartmouth on Thursday at Walsh Gymnasium, with tip slated for 7:00 p.m and live audio coverage available through Hall Pass on shupirates.com. The Big Green (15-13) were the Ivy League runner-up.
The winner of the Seton Hall-Dartmouth game will take on Hofstra in the second round. The Pride (24-7) received a first round bye.
Head coach Phyllis Mangina and the Hall tripled both the team's overall and conference win total from a season ago while making their return to the BIG EAST Championship as the number nine seed. The Pirates fell to South Florida in the first round.
SHU will make its first postseason appearance since back-to-back selections to the WNIT in 2003 and 2004. The Pirates advanced to the second round in 2004 with an overtime win over George Mason before being eliminated by Saint Joseph's.
Dartmouth finished second in the Ivy League standings to secure a WNIT berth. The Big Green lost eight of their first 10 games this season before hitting their stride at midseason. Senior guard Ashley Taylor, the Ivy League Player of the Year, leads the team at 17.3 ppg.
For the first time, each of the nation’s 31 conferences will be represented in the WNIT. The tournament expanded to 48 teams this year to accommodate an automatic berth for each of the conferences. All games in the Postseason WNIT will be held in on-campus venues.
Tickets to Thursday's game will be $12 for adults and $6 for children, seniors, and students. For more information, contact the Seton Hall University ticket office at (973) 275-4255.
