SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women’s basketball team will tackle a home-and-home series with local rival St. John’s as part of its 2007-08 BIG EAST Conference schedule that was released Tuesday. The Pirates, who are coming off a 19-win season and a berth in the WNIT, will also host national power Connecticut at Walsh Gymnasium in the upcoming season.
Five of the eight schools to visit South Orange next year earned postseason berths in 2006-07. DePaul, Louisville, and West Virginia joined Connecticut in the NCAA Tournament, while South Florida earned a spot in the WNIT. Also visiting Walsh Gymnasium will be Cincinnati and Syracuse. The Pirates went 3-6 against their 2007-08 home opponents this past season.
Four of the eight road foes on the schedule made the 2007 NCAA Tournament. SHU will visit national runner-up Rutgers in addition to trips to Marquette, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh. The Pirates will also travel to Georgetown, Providence, and Villanova. The Hall ran up a 7-2 record in 2006-07 against next year’s road opponents.
St. John’s replaces Providence as the Pirates’ home-and-home partner from last season’s schedule. The Red Storm will be the only team to visit Walsh Gymnasium for a second straight year. Dates and times for the 2007-08 season will be released at a later date along with the non-conference schedule.
