Blake Named Second Team All-Met

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Seton Hall senior women’s basketball player Monique Blake (Union, N.J.) was named to the All-Met Second Team on Monday by the National Invitation Tournament and the Met Basketball Writers Association.  Blake led the team in rebounding and shot blocking and was second in scoring in her final season with the Pirates.

A 6-0 forward, Blake averaged 10.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while leading SHU to the 2007 Women’s National Invitation Tournament.  The Pirates finished the season at 19-12, the program’s best mark in 12 years.

Kia Vaughn of Rutgers was named the women’s college player of the year.  Joining her on the All-Met First Team are Essence Carson of Rutgers, Mykeema Ford of Stony Brook, Kia Wright of St. John’s, Martina Weber of Iona, and Cara Enright of Army.

Alongside Blake on the Second Team are Vanessa Gidden and Cigi McCollin of Hofstra, Valerie Nainima of Long Island, and Rachele Fitz and Alisa Kresge of Marist.

Army’s Dave Magarity won the Maggie Dixon Coach of the Year Award after guiding the Black Knights to a 24-6 record.    

The All-Met awards dinner will be held Tuesday evening, April 10, at Giants Stadium Club in East Rutherford, N.J.
