
Women's Basketball Edged by Georgetown, 57-56

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team dropped its second straight game after a 57-56 loss to Georgetown. The Pirates (12-5, 2-3) trailed most of the way, but mustered a comeback in the second half to almost come away with a win.
The Pirates held a one point edge until Aminata Diop drained a turnaround jumper with 18 seconds to go to put the Hoyas (11-7, 1-4) on top 57-56. Seton Hall called a timeout before its last possession, but Monica McNutt swiped the ball from senior Ela Mukosiej (Bialystok, Poland) to seal the game.
Down 37-28 at the half, the Pirates used an 11-4 run to go ahead, 48-47, with 9:01 on the clock. Both teams traded baskets over the next five minutes, and Seton Hall was able to establish a 56-53 advantage with 2:35 left.
Mukosiej scored the Pirates' first seven points of the game to keep them close. Georgetown kept a comfortable lead, and pulled away with by holding SHU scoreless in the final 3:17 of the half.
Senior Amber Harris (Washington, Pa.) and sophomore Nicole Emery (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored 10 points, a piece for SHU.
Brina Pollack scored a game-high 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting for the Hoyas.
Georgetown shot 46.8 percent from the floor, while holding the Pirates to just 36.2 percent shooting.
Seton Hall travels to Providence to take on the Friars on Saturday, January 26. Tip is set for 2:00 p.m.
