Women's Basketball Sunk By St. John's, 78-57

QUEENS, N.Y. The Seton Hall women’s basketball team lost its fifth straight game on Wednesday night, falling to St. John’s, 78-57.

The Pirates (15-12, 3-11) were led by junior Shantel Brown (Lakewood, N.J.) and senior Noteisha Womack (Washington, D.C.) with 14 points.  Da’Shena Stevens paced the Red Storm (16-11, 4-10) with 17. 

The Hall took an early 6-2 lead after a steal and layup by Williams three minutes into the game, but the Red Storm responded with a 7-0 run over the next 61 seconds to take a three-point advantage.  Brown tied things up with a 3-point play at the 13:53 mark, but another seven unanswered gave St. John’s a 16-9 lead.

Williams sank a triple to get the Pirates back within a basket before a 9-2 spurt for the Red Storm made it 25-16 with 7:35 to play.  St. John’s led by as many as 15 before Brown’s leaning jumper with two seconds left made it 40-27 at halftime.

The Hall got to within 10 before an 18-2 run spanning seven minutes and 46 seconds made it 64-38 with 9:07 to go, the largest lead of the night for the Red Storm.

St. John’s connected on 59.3 percent from the floor while holding the Hall to just 38.7 percent.  The Red Storm outrebounded the Pirates 40-24.

Freshman Kandice Green (Baltimore, Md.) added 10 points, eight rebounds and a career-high five assists for Seton Hall. 

The Pirates are back in action Saturday night at #1 Connecticut.
