#1 UConn Handles Women's Basketball, 81-50

HARTFORD, Conn. The Seton Hall women’s basketball team dropped its sixth straight game on Saturday night, falling to #1 Connecticut at the XL Center, 81-50.  The Pirates (15-13, 3-12) close out their regular season on Monday at home against Georgetown at 7:00 p.m.

Freshman Kandice Green (Baltimore, Md.) paced the Hall with 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior Noteisha Womack (Washington, D.C.) posted seven points and 10 rebounds.  Maya Moore led five Huskies (29-0, 15-0) in double figures with 18 points.

The Pirates, who outworked UConn on the glass in the early minutes, got out to a 5-2 lead on a 3-pointer from senior Jadis Rhodin (Lakehurst, N.J.) at the 17:37 mark.  The Huskies tightened their defense, however, holding the Hall scoreless for 8:27 as Maya Moore fueled a 21-0 run with a pair of trifectas.  Freshman Shanai Heber (Paterson, N.J.) broke the dry spell with a fallaway jumper that made it 23-7 with 9:10 on the clock.

Seton Hall played UConn even over the next several minutes, with another Rhodin 3-pointer making it 34-18 at the 4:08 mark.  A late Huskies’ rally pushed it to 44-22 at halftime.

A barrage from beyond the arc gave UConn its first 30-point lead of the game at 61-31 with 12:54 remaining.  The Pirates closed to within 67-40 after holding the Huskies scoreless for over four minutes, but the nation’s number one team held on down the stretch for its 29^th straight win.

Seton Hall finished the night with a 40-38 edge on the glass and forced 15 UConn turnovers.  The Huskies shot 49.1 percent from the field.
