SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall head women's basketball coach Phyllis Mangina has announced the hiring of Army assistant coach Ty Grace, who will join the Pirates' staff for the 2009-10 season.
Grace was a member of the Army staff for three seasons, where her duties and responsibilities included working with the Black Knights' post players, recruiting and alumni outreach efforts.
"We are very fortunate to have Ty join us at Seton Hall," said Mangina. "She has tremendous experience and worked with a terrific coach at Army in Dave Magarity. Her energy and enthusiasm will greatly benefit everyone in our program."
Prior to her stint at West Point, Grace served a two-year stint as the head coach at Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J. In her two seasons with the Roadrunners, she forged a 21-29 overall record.
Before her arrival at Ramapo in 2004, Grace coached as an assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson for five years, the first two seasons as a graduate assistant, where she coordinated travel arrangements and worked on individual skill development for post players and guards. The Roosevelt, N.Y., native began her coaching career serving as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Hartford.
A 1999 graduate of the University of New Haven, Grace earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Management. In May 2001, she earned a master's degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson.
A four-year letterwinner during her undergraduate days at UNH, Grace ranks as one of only two players in school history to eclipse 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She garnered second team All-New England Collegiate Conference honors as a sophomore, and earned first team All-NECC selections her junior and senior campaigns. She also received second team All-ECAC accolades following her junior year after averaging 11.4 points per game and 11.2 rebounds per contest.
Grace is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Black Coaches Association.
