NEWARK, N.J. - Tina Charles scored 19 points to lead #1 Connecticut to a 91-24 victory over the Seton Hall women's basketball team on Saturday at Prudential Center in the BIG EAST opener for both schools.
The Huskies (12-0, 1-0), who have won 51 straight contests, got 16 points each from Kalana Green and Meghan Gardler, while Maya Moore added 14. Junior Ebonie Williams (Hagerstown, Md.) paced the Pirates (8-6, 0-1) with nine points, all on three-pointers.
Connecticut got out to a 10-2 lead behind four points each from Moore and Greene. A Greene three-point play pushed it to 17-2 with 13:04 on the clock, and her shot from beyond the arc six minutes later made it a 20-point game for the first time.
UConn would extend the lead to 52-12 at halftime, with Greene and Charles both netting 14 points.
The Huskies finished the game with a 44-26 edge on the glass and forced 28 Seton Hall turnovers. UConn hit 56.7 percent from the field while holding the Hall to just 17.3 percent.
The Pirates are back in action on Jan. 5 when they welcome Syracuse to Walsh Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
