
Cross Country Opens Season at Monmouth Kick-Off Meet

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's cross country team placed fifth out of seven teams, while the women took fourth out of five squads. The Pirates will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. next weekend to compete in the BIG EAST Preview race to get a firsthand look at the course they will run at the conference championship meet later in the year.
Freshman Cory Johnston was the top men's finisher, crossing the finish line 13th with a time of 19:26. Sophomore Jared Hanko (Montville, N.J.) took 31st place with a time of 20:16. Junior Andrew O'Leary (Liverpool, N.Y.) was the next Pirate to finish, taking 53rd place in 20:59.
Senior Tom Corona (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Tony Cramond came in 57th and 58th, respectively with both runners hitting a mark of 21:04. Sophomore Mamadou Niang (North Caldwell, N.J.) placed 60th (20:36) and junior Erik Chester (Danieltown, Conn.) rounded out the Pirates' scoring in 64th (21:16).
On the women's side, sophomore Hughnique Rolle (Nassau, Bahamas) paced the team after finishing 18th with a time of 15:44. Senior Ali Hehn (Toms River, N.J.) was not far behind, taking 24th and running a 15:58. Freshman Nyala Edding grabbed 34th place, wrapping up her first career meet in 16:24.
Sophomore Eloisa Paredes (Clifton, N.J.) placed 36th after finishing in 16:29. Seniors KeAira Dickerson (Wilmington, Del.) and Madison Wrest (Edmonds, Wash.) secured 54th and 55th place after completing the course in 17:20 and 17:22, respectively. Sophomore Christina Chafos ran an 18:06 en route to a 67th place finish.
