
Women's Basketball Downed By #23 Syracuse, 75-50

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team suffered a 75-50 loss at #23/RV Syracuse on Saturday at the Carrier Dome. The Pirates (7-9, 0-3) will host Pittsburgh on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Freshman Jazzmine Johnson (Glen Dale, Md.) led the Hall with 10 points. Elashier Harris led five Orange (13-2, 1-1) in double figures with 16 points, while Shakeya Leary added 13 points, 19 rebounds and seven blocks.
After falling behind 5-0 to start, sophomore Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) was fouled beyond the arc and hit all three free throws to get the Pirates on the board at the 16:41 mark. Junior Tajay Ashmeade (Bronx, N.Y.) tied it with the Hall's first field goal of the game, and junior Kandice Green (Baltimore, Md.) sank two from the stripe for a 7-5 lead with 13:02 to go.
After trading scores for several minutes, Syracuse grabbed a 19-13 edge with 8:44 remaining after Tyson-Thomas scored seven straight over a span of one minute and 49 seconds. Hall and Tyson-Thomas later dropped in three-pointers as the Orange run reached 18-4, making it a 30-17 game at the 4:22 mark, and Tyson-Thomas closed the half with another three to give Syracuse a 39-21 lead at halftime.
Seton Hall shot just 16.7 percent in the first half, while the Orange hit at a 42.4 percent clip. Tyson-Thomas led all scorers with 13 points at the break.
The Pirates got no closer than 16 in the second half.
The Hall shot a season-low 21.3 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 53-42. Both squads committed 22 turnovers, with the Orange holding an 18-8 advantage in points off giveaways.
