With the end of the fall season just around the corner, the Seton Hall men's and women's cross country teams travel south to Princess Anne, Md., to compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Saturday, November 12.
Host University of Maryland Eastern Shore boasts a very fast and flat course - a welcome change from the inclines the Pirates have been climbing all season. The men will take on a season-long 10K, and the women will face a 6K.
"It's the first time all year they are facing the 10K," says Coach John Moon of the men's upcoming endeavor. "All of our workouts have been geared toward running long distances, so I know they are up for the challenge."
While the men's side remains in perfect health, the women's side has suffered several setbacks and minor injuries over the past couple weeks.
"Mentally, we are ready for the 6K," says Moon of the women's impending test. "The course is basically flat, so everyone is going to run extremely fast simply because the course is set up that way."
The Pirates will be led by a set of familiar racing spikes, as junior captain Jared Hanko and freshman Mary Migton look to continue their stellar seasons. Both runners have recorded team-best finishes at each event this fall, and Migton has posted five top-10 finishes in her impressive rookie campaign.
The teams will face familiar BIG EAST foes in Pittsburgh and Villanova, among several others. Other opponents competing against the blue and white include a variety of schools from Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, as well as other states in the area.
"My athletes right now are extremely prepared," adds Moon. "For this meet, and then for the IC4A Championship, I think we are ready and looking forward to ending the season on a high note."
