PIRATES' STATUS
Seton Hall overcame a 13-point halftime deficit to top Louisiana Tech, 72-69, in the opening game of the Paradise Jam thanks to the career-night from senior Jasmine Crew. Crew scored a career-high 35 points, which is tied for the second best single-game effort in program history. She went 16-for-21 from the foul line which broke the school record in both categories. The Pirates outrebounded the Lady Techsters by a 36-27 margin and held La. Tech to 37.5 percent shooting from the floor and 28.6 percent from downtown.
CRIMSON TIDE'S STATUS
Alabama almost rallied all the way back from a 15-point deficit, but came up just short as they were edged by Old Dominion, 77-76, their opening game of the Paradise Jam on Thursday. Senior Ericka Russell scored 29 points, one off of her career high, to lead all scorers. For the game, the Tide shot 35.7 percent for the game. Alabama forced 28 ODU turnovers that they turned into 23 points and had 16 steals.
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
Senior Jasmine Crew's 35 points against Louisiana Tech on Thursday, which is the second highest single-game total in program history. She joins Debbie Hartnett (1988) as the only other player to score 35 points. Geraldine Saintilus netted 36 points against St. John's in 1989 to set the all-time record. Crew did set records for free-throws made and attempted (16-for-21).
CLAMPING DOWN
After allowing a season-high 43 points in the first half to Louisiana Tech, the Pirates stepped up defensively, holding the Techsters to 37.5 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from three-point range. In addition, SHU turned the ball over just three times in the second half, compared to 13 in the first stanza.
CREW HONORED
Senior Jasmine Crew was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after averaging 18.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in the Hall's first four games of the season.
ALEXANDRA THE GREAT
Junior Alex Maseko is averaging 10 points and seven rebounds in her last two games. The forward had a career-day against Michigan on Nov. 20, scoring a career-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting with seven boards.
BOMBS AWAY
The Pirates' 10 three-pointers in their win over New Hampshire on Nov. 16 is tied for the second most in a single-game in program history and was one shy of tying the record set against Syracuse on Feb. 13, 2008.
DIRTY DOZEN
Junior Brittany Morris tied her career-high with 12 points at New Hampshire on Wednesday night. She went 4-for-4 from downtown in the first half to help SHU open up an 11-point halftime lead. It was the third time she reached that number and the four trey's set a new personal best.
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
Seton Hall's defense was the story in the first four games of the year. The Pirates held their opponents to 29.5 percent shooting from the floor and 23.1 percent from beyond the arc.
RETURN TO SENDER
SHU had 10 blocked shots in the game against Florida Gulf Coast on Nov 11. It was the most by a Pirate squad since they posted 11 rejections on Nov. 17, 2008 against Caldwell College.
SHU VS. THE SEC
The Pirates are 3-5 all-time against teams currently in the SEC. SHU is a perfect 2-0 against South Carolina, its most common SEC foe. The Pirates' other victory came against Mississippi State.
JCREW STARTING SEASON IN STYLE
Senior Jasmine Crew has picked up right where she left off last season posting career-highs in points four of the five games this season. In addition, she recorded her 1,000th collegiate point in the victory over Army. Crew is currently among the conference leaders, averaging 21.3 points per contest.
