PIRATES' STATUS
Seton Hall dropped its third straight after a 70-37 loss to #2 Connecticut on Friday night in its BIG EAST opener. The Huskies scored the first 20 points of the game and never looked back. Senior Jasmine Crew scored a team-high 12 points and freshman Alexis Brown tallied a career-high eight points, converting on 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. The Pirates defense limited UConn ot 37.7 percent shooting for the game, but shot just 20.9 percent on their offensive end.
DRAGONS' STATUS
Drexel is coming off an eight-day layoff due to finals and will complete a six-game road swing against the Pirates on Monday. The Dragons won their CAA opener, 58-43, over UNC-Wilmington on Dec. 4 to improve to 4-2 overall. Drexel started the game on a 19-3 run and never trailed by single-digits the rest of the way. Kamile Nacickaite was one of three players to score in double-figures and led the team with 17 points. The Dragons shot a blistering 60 percent from the field in the second half and held UNCW to 29.1 percent for the game.
SHU IN BIG EAST OPENERS
The Pirates fell to 12-18 all-time in BIG EAST openers after their loss to UConn on Dec. 9. SHU's last win to open conference play came on Jan. 5, 2008 when the Pirates topped Cincinnati, 54-43, in Walsh Gym.
SHU VS. THE CAA
The Pirates will play its third game against a CAA foe when they take on Drexel and are 17-11 all-time against teams currently in the Colonial Athletic Conference. SHU has played six contests against James Madison and Hofstra in its history, posting a 4-2 mark against the Dukes and a 3-3 record against the Pride. This season the Pirates have already faced Old Dominion and Hofstra.
MAGNIFICENT MORRIS
Through her last five games, junior Brittany Morris is averaging 13.7 points per game. She recently set career-high in scoring after in back-to-back games against ODU and Hofstra.
BEAST OF THE BOARDS
Senior Tajay Ashmeade posted her third double-figure rebounding game of the year after pulling down 12 against Wake Forest. She is the only current Pirate to have a double-figure rebounding game this season.
BROWN DEBUTS
Freshman Alexis Brown finally made her collegiate debut at Hofstra on Dec. 1 after missing the first seven games of the season due to a knee injury. The flashy guard scored four points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
CREW'S BIG WEEK
Senior guard Jasmine Crew had a big week in the Virgin Islands, helping the Pirates claim second place in the "Island" division at the Paradise Jam with a 2-1 record. Crew earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 24.3 points per game to lead all scorers in the competition. The conference also recognized her as BIG EAST Player of the Week, making Crew the first Pirate to earn that accolade since Noteisha Womack in December of 2007.
MORRIS ENJOYS "PARADISE"
Junior Brittany Morris scored a career-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting against ODU on Nov. 26 to help lighten some of the scoring load that Jasmine Crew has been carrying all season. In three games at the Paradise Jam, the Raleigh, N.C. native averaged 13.7 points per contest.
SCHOOL TIES
A 1983 graduate of Old Dominion, SHU head coach Anne Donovan earned her first career victory over her alma-mater on November 26. While at East Carolina from 1995-98, Donovan was 0-6 against the Lady Monarchs, who were perennially ranked in the top-25 in that time-frame.
IRON WOMAN
Senior Jasmine Crew played the entire 45 minutes in an overtime game against Alabama on Nov. 25, setting a new single-game record. Five players had previously held the mark at 43 minutes.
