Women's Basketball Halts Slide; Downs Drexel, 77-64

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team improved its record to 6-5 on Monday night, defeating Drexel, 77-64. Drexel (4-3) fell for only the second time as they concluded a stretch of six straight games away from home.
After struggling from the field in their previous two contests, Seton Hall bounced back to shoot a season-best 54.3 percent (25-46) from the field. The Pirates converted on 11-of-17 attempts from three-point range (64.7 percent), good enough for the fifth-highest single game percentage in school history.
Senior guard Jasmine Crew (Camden, N.J.) dished out a career-high 10 assists to go with 22 points for her first career double-double. Junior Terry Green (Bridgewaters, N.Y.) provided a spark off the bench, scoring a season-high 17 points, all coming in the first half. Green was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field including a career-high five three-pointers.
Kamile Nacickaite led all scorers with 25 points for Drexel. Hollie Mershon added 17 points.
The Seton Hall offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first half as the balanced, efficient attack yielded the highest scoring output for SHU in any half this season. The Hall jumped out to an early lead behind junior Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.), who scored the team's first eight points.
Nacickaite powered the visiting Dragons on the offensive end, scoring 15 of Drexel's first 18 points to keep the score line tight for much of the half. With the score knotted at 20-20, a three-pointer from Nicosia Henry (Bolingbrook, Ill.) sparked the Pirates' surge with 8:29 remaining. Green added four three-pointers of her own during a 25-9 run to close the half, giving Seton Hall a 45-29 halftime lead.
The Pirates continued their hot shooting after the break, keeping the spirited visitors at bay. With 12:12 remaining on the clock, a three-pointer from Morris gave SHU its biggest lead of the game at 58-36. The Dragons mounted a strong comeback effort, cutting the deficit to single-digits at 69-60 with 2:17 left to play. With the score tight down the stretch, Drexel was forced to foul. The Pirates stepped to the line and sank eight consecutive free-throws to cement their second home victory of the season.
Morris and Henry also scored in double-figures for the Pirates. Each scored 13 points with Morris netting three three-pointers and Henry adding two.
