PIRATES' STATUS
Seton Hall snapped a three-game skid with a 77-64 triumph over Drexel on Monday. The Pirates used a 65.4 percent shooting first half to build a 16-point halftime cushion and held off a late rally by the Dragons by knocking down free-throws to preserve the victory. SHU knocked down 11 three-pointers, tying the single-game record and had four players score in double-figures for the first time all year. Senior Jasmine Crew recorded her first career double-double with 22 points and 10 assists, while junior Terry Green added 17 off the bench.
SEAWOLVES' STATUS
Stony Brook dropped its sixth straight decision to Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, 51-48. The Seawolves led by three at the half, but surrendered a 20-4 to start the second period and SBU could not recover. Gerda Gatling led the team with 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. The Seawolves held the Knights to 30.8 percent shooting, but only converted on 26.3 percent from the floor in the loss.
BOMBS AWAY
The Pirates' 11 three-pointers against Drexel on Monday tied the single-game record for triples. It is the second time SHU has mounted double-figure trifectas in a game. They knocked down 10 treys in their win over New Hampshire on Nov. 16. The record was originally set against Syracuse on Feb. 13, 2008.
EASY BEING GREEN
Junior Terry Green exploded for 17 points off the bench against Drexel on Dec. 12. The forward shot 6-for-6 from the floor with five three-point goals.
DOUBLE THE FUN
Senior Jasmine Crew notched her first career double-double after scoring 22 points and dishing out 10 assists against Drexel. She is the first player to notch the feat this season.
SHU VS. THE AMERICA EAST
The Pirates are now 10-4 against teams currently in the America East Conference. SHU has already faced and defeated New Hampshire this season, and improved to 3-2 against the Wildcats, its most frequent foe in the league.
SHU IN BIG EAST OPENERS
The Pirates fell to 12-18 all-time in BIG EAST openers after their loss to UConn on Dec. 9. SHU's last win to open conference play came on Jan. 5, 2008 when the Pirates topped Cincinnati, 54-43, in Walsh Gym.
MAGNIFICENT MORRIS
Through her last six games, junior Brittany Morris is averaging 14.3 points per game. She recently set career-high in scoring after in back-to-back games against ODU and Hofstra.
BEAST OF THE BOARDS
Senior Tajay Ashmeade posted her third double-figure rebounding game of the year after pulling down 12 against Wake Forest. She is the only current Pirate to have a double-figure rebounding game this season.
BROWN DEBUTS
Freshman Alexis Brown finally made her collegiate debut at Hofstra on Dec. 1 after missing the first seven games of the season due to a knee injury. The flashy guard scored four points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
CREW'S BIG WEEK
Senior guard Jasmine Crew had a big week in the Virgin Islands, helping the Pirates claim second place in the "Island" division at the Paradise Jam with a 2-1 record. Crew earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 24.3 points per game to lead all scorers in the competition. The conference also recognized her as BIG EAST Player of the Week, making Crew the first Pirate to earn that accolade since Noteisha Womack in December of 2007.
MORRIS ENJOYS "PARADISE"
Junior Brittany Morris scored a career-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting against ODU on Nov. 26 to help lighten some of the scoring load that Jasmine Crew has been carrying all season. In three games at the Paradise Jam, the Raleigh, N.C. native averaged 13.7 points per contest.
