PIRATES' STATUS
Seton Hall fell to Howard, 63-44, on Wednesday night to mark its second straight defeat. The Pirates fell behind 11-3 to start the game and never recovered. SHU turned the ball over 12 times in the first half, leading to 10 points in transition for the Bison. The Pirates shot just 31.4 percent from the floor for the game. Senior Jasmine Crew paced the offense with 13 points, while senior Tajay Ashmeade posted her third-straight double-figure rebounding game after grabbing a game-high 14 boards.
TIGERS' STATUS
Memphis shot just 25.4 percent from the field and hit just three field goals in the last 10 minutes of the game in a 58-48 loss at Missouri last Thursday. After starting out slow, the Tigers pulled led by a point late in the first half, but struggled to convert on the offensive end. The loss is the second straight for Tigers, who shot 17.6 percent from the floor in the second half. Brittany Carter led Memphis with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Jasmine Lee added 10 points and 12 boards.
A CHANGE OF PACE
For the first time all season, the Pirates switched up their starting lineup. Freshman Alexis Brown made her first career start, replacing senior Tajay Ashmeade in the front court against Howard on Dec. 28.
BEAST OF THE BOARDS
Senior Tajay Ashmeade posted her third straight and fifth double-figure rebounding game of the season after grabbing a game-high 14 against Howard on Dec. 28. She is averaging 17.3 rebounds during her dominant stretch and Ashmeade's 21 boards against William & Mary on Dec. 21 is tied for the highest by any BIG EAST player this season. She is the only current Pirate to have a double-figure rebounding game this season.
ALL THAT JAZZ
Sophomore Jazzmine Johnson made her season debut on Dec. 21 against William & Mary after missing the first 12 games of the season while recovering from offseason knee surgery. The guard scored two points in 16 minutes off the bench.
PIRATES DROWN SEAWOLVES
The Hall put together its best defensive effort of the season against Stony Brook on Dec. 17. The Pirates limited the Seawolves to just 11 field goals, which is the lowest total makes by an opponent since Nov. 25, 2001, when they held Sacramento State to nine field goals. Stony Brook was also 0-for-3 from downtown, which marked the first time since SHU did not allow a three-point goal since Jan. 3, 2009 against Notre Dame.
FAB FIVE
Against Stony Brook, Seton Hall had all five starters score in double-figures for the first time all season. It marks the first time a Pirate team had five players score 10 or more points since 2009 against Syracuse.
BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE
In the spirit of the holiday season, senior Jasmine Crew was in a giving mood in a pair of games late in December after averaging eight assists against Drexel and Stony Brook, including a career-best 10 to go with 22 points against Drexel on Dec. 12. It marked the first double-double of Crew's career.
SHU VS. CONFERENCE USA
The Pirates are just 3-0 against teams currently in Conference USA. SHU won a pair of games against Marshall in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons and topped East Carolina, who was coached at the time by Anne Donovan, in the 1996-97 campaign.
BOMBS AWAY
The Pirates' 11 three-pointers against Drexel on Dec. 12 tied the single-game record for triples. It is the second time SHU has mounted double-figure trifectas in a game. They knocked down 10 treys in their win over New Hampshire on Nov. 16. The record was originally set against Syracuse on Feb. 13, 2008.
EASY BEING GREEN
Junior Terry Green exploded for 17 points off the bench against Drexel on Dec. 12. The forward shot 6-for-6 from the floor with five three-point goals.
SHU IN BIG EAST OPENERS
The Pirates fell to 12-18 all-time in BIG EAST openers after their loss to UConn on Dec. 9. SHU's last win to open conference play came on Jan. 5, 2008 when the Pirates topped Cincinnati, 54-43, in Walsh Gym.
