
Women's Basketball Taken Down at Providence, 62-47

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team lost to Providence, 62-47, on Saturday afternoon. Senior Jasmine Crew (Camden, N.J.) scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting to lead the way for the Pirates (7-19, 0-12).
Senior Tajay Ashmeade (Bronx, N.Y.) finished with 11 rebounds to tie for the game-high.
Rachel Barnes scored 14 points to pace the Friars (13-12, 5-7).
Seton Hall shot the ball well in the first half (45.5 percent), but took a 29-24 deficit into the locker room mostly in part to 10 turnovers which led to 11 points by Providence. The Friars took a 12-4 lead of the gates and later led by 10 with 6:25 remaining before Terry Green (Bridgewaters, N.J.) caught fire.
The junior scored all 10 of her first half points during a 13-3 run to cut the margin to 27-24 with 2:18 on the clock, and a pair of Teya Wright free-throws ended the period scoring.
The Pirates defense was stellar in the final 10 minutes of the frame, holding PC to just one field goal in the final 7:34.
The Friars scored the first three buckets of the second half to extend the lead into double-figures and did not let up. A three-pointer by Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) made it 44-35 with 10:47 to go, but a 10-2 run by Providence put the game out of reach despite not scoring a field goal in the last 6:07 of the contest.
After the strong shooting in the first half, SHU hit on just 24 percent in the second half. The Friars finished the game with 20 points off of 19 turnovers.
The Pirates return to Walsh Gym on Saturday, February 18, to take on Cincinnati at 2:00 p.m. It marks SHU's Play4Kay game. Fans are encouraged to donate prior to the game against the Bearcats.
