
Women's Basketball Stymied at #24 Rutgers, 62-39

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team hung around for 20 minutes with #24 Rutgers, but a relentless second half by the Scarlet Knights led to a 62-39 defeat at the RAC on Tuesday night.
The Pirates (7-21, 0-14) were led by Jasmine Crew (Camden, N.J.), who scored 20 points. Junior Brittany Morris (Raleigh, N.C.) chipped in 14.
SHU stayed with Rutgers most of the first half, playing menacing defense and playing strong on the glass. A three-point play by April Sykes gave the Scarlet Knights an 11-6 edge with 11:23 left in the first half, but a 7-0 run put the Pirates on top by two just under three minutes later.
Erica Wheeler knocked down two of her three trifecta's during an 8-0 outburst to put RU ahead, 19-15, with 4:39 before halftime. The Pirates closed within two, but the Scarlet Knights outscored SHU 9-2 in the final 3:50 to take a 28-19 cushion into the locker room.
Rutgers came out of the break in a frenzy, starting the second half on a 21-4 run to take a 49-23 lead with 12:19 left in regulation, and never looked back.
The Scarlet Knights full court pressure forced 18 turnovers, leading to 31 points. The Pirates held RU to just 36.7 percent shooting, but converted on just 35 percent of their own attempts.
April Sykes led the Scarlet Knights with 17 points and five rebounds.
The Pirates will stay on the road to take on Pittsburgh on Saturday, February 25. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
