PIRATES' STATUS
Seton Hall dropped a 62-39 decision at #24 Rutgers on Tuesday night at the RAC. The Pirates played a strong opening half, and trailed by just nine heading into the break. However, the Scarlet Knights opened the second half with a 21-4 knockout blow to put the game away. SHU had 18 turnovers, leading to 31 Rutgers points. Senior Jasmine Crew led the way with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor and a 6-for-6 mark from the free-throw line.
PANTHERS' STATUS
Pittsburgh fell to #3 Connecticut 86-37 on Tuesday night. The Huskies led wire-to-wire and were ahead 48-10 at the half. UConn shot a blistering 61.4 percent from the field and held Pitt to 24 percent. Brianna Kiesel, a product of Thomas R. Proctor high school in Utica, N.Y., dropped a team-high 15 points in 36 minutes of action to lead the Panthers.
A YEAR TO REMEMBER
Senior Jasmine Crew has had one of the greatest offensive year's in program history. She has already racked up 517 points, which is the fifth highest single-season mark. Crew is 91 away from tying Geraldine Saintilus' record of 608 set in 1988-89.
CREW SETS FREE-THROW RECORD
With her 131st made free-throw at Georgetown on Feb. 8, Jasmine Crew set the program's single-season record. Kandice Green set the previous mark of of 130 in the 2009-10 season. Crew is now up to 155 makes on the year.
PIRATES EXCELLING FROM DEEP
For the second straight season, SHU is having a banner-year in regards to three-pointers made in a season. The Pirates had 144 makes in 2010-11 and are at 130 with at least three more games this year.
CHIPPING IN
For the first time all season, every player that saw action scored for the Pirates in their game at Villanova on Jan. 31. It was the first time SHU had eight players on the scoresheet since a Dec. 17 game against Stony Brook.
EASY BEING GREEN
Junior Terry Green tied the school record for three-pointers made in a game after going 7-for-7 from downtown against DePaul on Jan. 28. Her exploits tied Debbie Hartnett who drilled seven three's against Hofstra on December 17, 1988. In addition, she is just the second player to all seven triples in a BIG EAST game, joining Notre Dame's Alicia Ratay who accomplished the feat against Rutgers in 2000.
FINDING THE RANGE
For the first time since Dec. 30 at Memphis, the Pirates shot above 40-percent from the floor against Syracuse on Jan. 22. It also marked just the second time SHU has outshot its opponents in its last eight contests.
GOING THE DISTANCE
Senior Jasmine Crew played a stretch of 153 straight minutes before getting a brief breather at Providence on Feb. 11. For the season, she has played the entire way 11 times and has logged over 35 minutes in all but three games.
MAGNIFICENT MORRIS
Junior Brittany Morris poured in a career-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting at Marquette on Jan. 7. It's the fourth time this season she's set a personal best in scoring this season. She followed that up with a 24 point performance at West Virginia on Jan. 10.
A CHANGE OF PACE
Head coach Anne Donovan has shuffled her starting lineup in 11 of the Pirates last 14 games after using the same starting five for the first 13 games of the year.
CREW IN ELITE COMPANY
Senior Jasmine Crew nearly single-handedly brought SHU back from a halftime deficit at Memphis on Dec. 30 after scoring the first 12 points of the second frame on her way to a game-high 33 points. It marks her second 30-plus point game of the year. She is just the second player in program history to have a pair of 30-point games in a season, joining Geraldine Saintilus who accomplished the feat in the 1988-89 season.
