SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team lost to St. John's, 55-25, on Saturday afternoon. The Pirates (7-17, 0-10) were led by senior Jasmine Crew (Camden, N.J.), who paced the team with 14 points.
Crew went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe and has 126 makes for the year. She is now just five away from setting the single-season record. Senior Tajay Ashmeade (Bronx, N.Y.) had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Shenneika Smith had 15 points to lead St. John's.
The Red Storm (15-8, 7-3) began the contest on an 18-0 run over the first 8:19 before a layup by Nicosia Henry (Bolingbrook, Ill.) ended SHU's scoring drought. The Pirates defense slowed down St. John's for the remainder of the half, holding them to just eight points in the final 10-plus minutes. However, Seton Hall still trailed 26-12 at the break.
The second half started similarly to the first with the Red Storm netting six straight to open the frame. St. John's led by as many as 33 with 5:22 left to put the finishing touches on the win.
The Red Storm shot 42.9 percent from the floor, while the Pirates connected on just 18.0 percent.
The Pirates hit the road to face Georgetown on Wednesday, February 8. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
