SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anne Donovan has announced that forward Janee Johnson (Matthews, N.C.) and center Brittany Webb (New York, N.Y.) will join the Pirates next fall. Both players have spent the last year at community colleges and will have junior eligibility heading into the 2012-13 season.
Johnson spent last season at Gulf Coast Community College in Florida after spending the 2009-10 season at Duke. The 6'1" post player averaged 3.5 points and 4.0 rebounds with the Commodores last season to help the squad post a 21-4 record. Johnson averaged 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.6 assists as a senior at Providence Day High School, where she garnered a spot on NCISAA All-State First team. While there, she led the team to three state championship games in as many years and back-to-back North Carolina Independent Schools 3A State Championships.
"Janee Johnson is a post player with a very versatile skill set," Donovan said. "She has the strength to battle in the post and out to three-point range to stretch the defense out. We are very excited to bring Janee into our Pirate family."
Webb stands at 6'4" and is coming off a season where she earned honorable mention honors on the NJCAA All-American list. She averaged nine points to go with a team-high 6.9 rebounds and 1.7 blocks at ASA in Brooklyn, N.Y. She helped guide the Avengers to a 22-5 record and reach the District C Divison I Semifinals in 2011-12. Webb attended high school at St. Michael Academy in New York where she helped the Eagles to a 78-11 record in her three seasons and was rated the 16th-best center in the 2010 class by ESPN Hoop Gurlz. Webb was an ESPN Rise All-NY Metro Fourth-Team selection in 2009 after helping the Eagles to CHSAA Class AA and NYSFSSAA titles.
"I have been searching for a strong, dominant post presence like Brittany since coming to SHU," stated Donovan. "Her dominance on the boards and in the paint will make an immediate impact in our post game."
The Pirates have already signed four players to the class of 2016 in Sidney Cook (Parkton, N.C.), Shannise Heady (Hazel Crest, Ill.), Jasmine McCall (Manalapan, N.J.), and Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) to National Letters of Intent. The 2012-13 recruiting class was ranked #33 in the nation by All-Star Girls Report prior to the spring signing period.
