Men's Cross Country Team Visits Maplewood Middle School for Third-Annual Boy's Night

The theme this year was K.I.N.D., or Kids Interested in New Decisions. The students had the opportunity to speak with professionals including the Seton Hall men's cross country team, police officers, firefighters, scientists, athletes, a surfer, as well as Maplewood Middle teachers and social workers.
The speakers were able to engage the students in hands on activities and discussion about issues they face every day.
"We had a great time with the kids at the boys night at Maplewood Middle School. We run by the school all the time and finally we were able to meet the kids that say hello to us as we go by the school. The kids had a blast playing basketball and video games and running relay races. We were glad to be a part of it," said SHU men's cross country junior Tony Cramond.
The night also included time for the students to play soccer, basketball, foosball, video games, or just spend time socializing with classmates. Coordinators of the event, Maplewood Middle School teachers Rob Schmidt and Marc Gold, were excited to have a partnership with Seton Hall University and look forward to collaborating with the school in the future. The school received generous donations of time, energy, gift certificates, and a variety of prizes from members of the school and community alike.
"Boys' Night is always a highlight of the school year for both students and staff involved! It gives us and community members an opportunity to bond with our boys in a setting outside of the classroom and a different forum to provide strategies for "K.I.N.D." or Kids Interested in New Decisions; our theme for the evening. New relationships were formed and others were strengthened. All in all the night was a great success," commented Schmidt.
