PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore setter Shelbey Manthorpe (Merion Station, Pa.) was named BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday. Manthorpe helped Seton Hall to 2-0 record at the JMU Classic, marking the program's best start since 2008.
Manthorpe did a little bit of everything over the weekend, posting averages of 9.75 assists, 1.62 kills, and 3.88 digs in eight sets. The preseason all-conference selection continued to make recording a triple-double look like a routine feat after registering 11 kills, 34 assists, and 18 digs in a four-set triumph over the Mountaineers in the season opener on Saturday. The performance marked Manthorpe's fifth triple-double of her career.
In a 3-1 win over James Madison, the setter played more of a traditional role as a facilitator, dishing out 44 assists and continued her strong back-row play with 13 digs for her 12th consecutive double-double, dating back to 2011.
Notre Dame libero, Taylor Morey, earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
The Pirates are back in action this weekend at the Maryland Invitational. SHU opens the three-match tournament on Friday night against the host Terps at 7:30 p.m.
